OIAD – Riepilogo settimanale (19/10/2026 – 26/10/2026)

Dear Members,
Every week, the Observatory keeps you informed about developments around the world concerning the defense of lawyers at risk. Here is what has been happening on our website this week:
The OIAD, alongside the signatory organisations, expresses deep concern over the repeated acts of harassment and intimidation reported by Roxana Cardona, a human rights lawyer and founder of the organisation Justicia Social y Contraloría Ciudadana. The signatory organisations urge the Salvadoran authorities to investigate these incidents, ensure her safety and physical and psychological well-being, and put an end to any reprisals related to her professional activities and participation in public debate.
According to the information received, two officers from the National Civil Police recently visited the lawyer’s home, recorded her personal details and photographed her property without clearly explaining the reasons for their actions. After publicly denouncing the incident, she received a message from a police officer stating that senior officers were unhappy with her. She has also reported that her social media accounts were blocked, and that attempts were made to gain unauthorized access to them.
Against a backdrop of restrictions on judicial safeguards and harassment targeting lawyers and human rights defenders, the OIAD and the signatory organizations call on the authorities to conduct an independent and impartial investigation, protect Roxana Cardona and her family, and guarantee the free exercise of her profession.
